Pharma and biotech firms improve quality and productivity with Linde technology

Murray Hill & New Providence, New Jersey, U.S., March 25, 2010 – Pharmaceutical manufacturers and biotech firms looking to make increasingly advanced, higher quality products now have a supplier who can design and deliver cost-effective solutions to address their most stringent operational and environmental needs.

Linde North America, a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company, has decades of technical and engineering experience in helping manufacturers improve product quality, efficiency and yield, while reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

“Linde has developed several technologies perfectly suited to improve pharmaceutical and biotech processes as well as to meet the ever increasing environmental requirements,” said Bryan Luftglass, head of chemistry, energy and environmental solutions for Linde North America. “For example, we have solutions that can recover VOCs from process and waste streams as well as technology for efficient cryo-condensation in reactors and for freeze drying,” Luftglass said. “In addition, we provide pH control and water treatment technologies, gases for inerting and purging, and liquid helium for low-temperature research,” Luftglass said.

Visit the Linde booth at the MassBio Annual Meeting and Vendor Expo at the World Trade Center, Boston, Massachusetts, March 30-31, to discuss in detail how these capabilities can improve pharmaceutical, biotech and R&D operations. At its booth, Linde will be featuring the CUMULUS® Fluid Temperature Control technology that provides fast and accurate cooling of heat transfer fluids through an indirect application of liquid nitrogen, which regulates temperatures within +/- 1ºC.

“The CUMULUS technology’s precise low-temperature control results in improved reaction selectivity, easy repeatability, higher quality and yield,” Luftglass said. “The system’s compact design footprint also allows easy retrofit installation and repositioning to other areas of the plant when the process changes,” he said.

For air treatment needs, the Linde CIRRUS® Vapor Emission Control system provides chemical and pharmaceutical customers with a flexible, compact and efficient option for reducing VOCs at reduced operating costs.

“Both the CUMULUS and CIRRUS technologies allow nitrogen gas effluent to be reused for purging or inerting throughout the plants,” Luftglass said.
